Experience
My recent undergraduate degree, from Washington University, focuses on both biology and ballet; these two subjects are not often seen together, but I have experienced the confidence that a performance background can give to a teacher. In the past, I worked for a St. Louis-based education nonprofit that worked with inner city children to improve literacy rates and math education among middle and high school aged children. I helped their youth development program, coordinating staff members to develop and implement programs. This experience helped me not only see the difference educational help can make, but also how these programs could be successful for students who needed them. I have also been involved in peer-led tutoring sessions, helping my fellow students better understand Calculus and science. During these sessions, I also learned about the lecture materials, questions from past exams, and homework problems. As a tutor, I can help my students better understand and learn about many different subjects ranging from Spanish and English to science and math. I help my students find the same pride and confidence in their work as I do.
